D-allulose is a rare monosaccharide with about 70% of the sweetness of sucrose, but it produces almost no calories and has multiple physiological activities such as blood-glucose regulation and antioxidant effects. It is widely used in functional foods, health products, and formulas for people with diabetes. Because its structure is similar to common monosaccharides such as D-glucose and D-fructose, traditional detection methods such as ultraviolet detection (UV) face challenges because D-allulose lacks conjugated double bonds and has no UV absorption; derivatization-based methods are cumbersome and have poor repeatability. As a universal detector, the charged aerosol detector (CAD) can directly detect polar small molecules without UV absorption, with high sensitivity and stable response. It is well suited for direct quantitative analysis of D-allulose and similar sugars, especially on high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) platforms, and is a preferred solution for rapid screening and quality control of functional sugars.
