. 2′-Fucosyllactose (2′-FL) is an oligosaccharide abundant in human milk and belongs to the human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs). It has multiple physiological functions, including promoting probiotic growth, inhibiting harmful bacteria and supporting immune regulation. It has been approved by the U.S. FDA as Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS) and is added to infant formula as a food ingredient. In the analysis and detection of 2′-FL, high-performance liquid chromatography with charged aerosol detection (HPLC-CAD) plays an important role.
Because HPLC-CAD offers high sensitivity and a wide linear range, it is suitable for qualitative and quantitative analysis of 2′-FL. For example, in a 2′-FL purity reference material jointly developed by the National Institute of Metrology, China, and a dairy company in Heilongjiang, HPLC-CAD was used for qualitative and quantitative analysis of structure-related impurities.
