2′-Fucosyllactose (2′-FL) is an oligosaccharide abundant in breast milk, belonging to the human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs) group. It has multiple physiological functions, including promoting probiotic growth, inhibiting harmful bacteria, and immune regulation. It has been granted Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS) status by the U.S. FDA and is added as a food ingredient to infant formula. In the analysis and detection of 2′-FL, High-Performance Liquid Chromatography-Charged Aerosol Detection (HPLC-CAD) plays an important role.
HPLC-CAD, with its high sensitivity and wide linear range, is suitable for qualitative and quantitative analysis of 2′-FL. For example, in the development of a 2′-FL purity reference material jointly developed by the National Institute of Metrology, China and a dairy company in Heilongjiang, HPLC-CAD was used for qualitative and quantitative analysis of structurally related impurities.
