In the 2020 edition of the Chinese Pharmacopoeia, related substances of ursodeoxycholic acid are determined by thin-layer chromatography, and content determination uses titration. This article develops a charged aerosol detection method to improve the applicability and repeatability of the original method, while also increasing the detection limit of impurities and enhancing the quality control level of this drug. The charged aerosol detector (CAD) is a new type of universal detector developed in recent years.
Its detection is independent of the molecular structure of the analyte, and the analyte does not need to be ionized. As long as the analyte is a semi-volatile or non-volatile compound, CAD detection can be used. At the same time, CAD is a mass-sensitive detector; the response value of the analyte is determined by the absolute mass of the detected sample. As long as the absolute mass of the detected sample is consistent, the measured response values are basically similar, and lower detection limits and higher sensitivity can be achieved.
